Question: What drives your passion for medicine?

Your work in healthcare is a blend of science and empathy.

But a fact that most of us forget is that the work that is second nature to us today inspires and excites people across the world.

So this week, take some time to reflect on:

  • The moment that made you realize medicine was your calling

  • The aspect of your work that excites you the most

  • The factors that have kept you going ever since

These reflections are more than just personal insights.

They are core beliefs.

They set your perspective apart, and have the potential to leave a lasting impact on people within and beyond the medical community.

Quote on complexity and clarity

"If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough."

Albert Einstein

The lesson: When we clearly articulate complex concepts, it not only shows our understanding but also allows others to grasp the ideas more easily. This is a hallmark of true mastery and a reminder of the value of clear and simplified writing.

Framework: How to write a memorable story

Storytelling is by far the most dynamic tool in your writing arsenal.

Think about it.

Nothing creates curiosity like a good story.

Your favorite movie, television show, or work of fiction all incorporate key storytelling principles to keep the viewer on the other side hooked from start to finish.

It taps into emotions.

It makes concepts more relatable.

But above all, it combines simple experiences and ideas into memorable pieces of writing for your audience.

Here's a simple 4 step framework to create powerful stories:

  1. Start with a clear message

Before writing, describe the core message you want to convey within a few sentences.

This is synonymous with a big idea - the guide to your narrative and the key point you want your readers to take away.

  1. Know your audience

If you're writing to everyone, you're writing to no one, which is exactly why you need to understand who you are writing for.

Are they patients seeking clarity, doctors looking for new insights, or a broader audience interested in healthcare?

When you know what your audience desires and struggles with, you can create a story that deeply resonates with them.

  1. Open a loop

This is one of the single best ways to create curiosity. It's much like giving your readers the pieces to a puzzle, and allowing them to fill in the gaps as they go through your writing (Zeigarnik effect).

To effectively open loops, use open phrases in your hooks, ask more questions, but don't forget to close them by the end of your writing.

  1. Use the magic word

Here, it isn't please or thank you. It's just a three-letter word: You.

There are several reasons this works so well, but above all, it implies you're speaking directly to the reader, and keeps your writing style fluid and engaging.

  1. Keep it specific, simple, and structured

Your story might be great, but if it's a complicated, vague block of text, nobody will read or find it enjoyable.

When you write, let your thoughts flow freely. But when you edit, focus on clarity and make your readers feel like the text was written just for them.

π—‘π—²π˜ƒπ—²π—Ώ 𝗯𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗢𝗻𝗴.

Standing out as a writer has never been easier, yet scarce when you view the landscape of social media today.

Accomplishments are celebrated, but experiences are repressed.

Achievements are prioritized, yet conversations are overlooked.

Today, authenticity is your key differentiator.

If you want to stand out, be bold and be genuine.

Break the norm; share the problems that keep you up at night, and explain complex ideas like you're having a conversation with a friend.

When you write, don’t limit yourself to just stating facts.

Your point of view and moments of realization hold more value than you realize.
